SUMMER, 2008

The Lord has been faithful to Global Evangelism Ministries since our very inception.  It has been incredible to witness His protection, provision, and providence.
Since our last newsletter we have completed a ministry project to Sand Point, Alaska, where GEM Associate Craig Furlough serves as Mission Pastor.  The weather was very cold and windy, but the results which God yielded were incredible.

The project, which included both in-church and outreach venues seems to have had a good impact.  Pastor Craig wrote, “We enjoyed the weekend and the results that God brought to Sand Point Church are deep and long-lasting.  Jeff was such a blessing and your messages were timely and right on point with the Gospel of Jesus.  The people that came to know Jesus at the weekend services are a testimony to the power that God yields even to the ends of the earth where we are.  Thank you for coming and allowing God to use you in such a powerful way. The gift of Jeff Andler and your wife Mary was just more than we could have thought to ask.”

During the weekend project we were blessed to witness 24 professions of faith, including the school principal.

While GEM is often associated with only international ministry, it is important to remember that we are committed to sharing the Gospel with all people … anywhere in the world.  We were blessed to have our ministry partner, Jeff Andler (JAMin), join us and provide music and worship leadership.  Not only is Jeff a great friend and incredible worship leader, he is a partner GEM is thankful to have on board with the ministry!

The ministry in Alaska brought to our attention the fact that perhaps as much as 90% of the population of this great state has no personal relationship with Jesus  Christ.  GEM has accepted our responsibility to be available to assist the struggling churches in Alaska with ministry.

During our time in AK we met with representatives of the Baptist Association in Anchorage as well as the staff of the Alaska Baptist Convention.  The meetings were encouraging and yielded the results of hearing the hearts of these wonderful men of God who are serving on the frontlines of evangelism and ministry.  Subsequent conversations with the leaders in Alaska let us know that our ministry in this state has just begun.  GEM looks forward to whatever God has in store for us in this beautiful state.

Please remember to pray for Pastor Craig Furlough and the ministry at the Sand Point Church.  Here are some specific prayer requests from Craig.

The Furlough Family.  Craig, Kathleen, and son Justin are very isolated and removed from much needed fellowship.

The ministry vision of the small, struggling church in Sand Point. The island is a small fishing village and this is the only evangelical presence there.

Revival to come to Alaska! Not only Alaska, but all the United States.

The continued blessing of God’s hand upon Global Evangelism Ministries!

We are committed to the task of going where others refuse to go.  Thank you for your prayerful support.

Thank you for your continued interest and investment in Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM).   The most recent ministry project to Ghana was a tremendous success -- as reported in our last electronic and print update.

As always, we are committed to the task of reporting to our friends the information on each of our projects.  While our last update gave you a glimpse into the work, at least from our perspective, we wanted to give you the full report as presented by GEM of Ghana (GEMoG) Director, Rev. Sammy Lartey.

Brother Sammy does far more work that most of you imagine.  I think sometimes we mistakenly believe that the totality of Sammy's work is done while we Americans are in Ghana.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  He works tirelessly in preparation, participation, and the follow-up on our projects while at the same time serving as the Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church in Kpong and as the direct overseer of 28 pastors under his leadership around the country.

I hope you will enjoy reading his report below which has not been edited at all.  He is a great brother and tremendous servant of the Lord.  Until Jesus comes, I remain

Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission,

MARCH, 2008

Straight from my heartgemlogo3 <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->My dear friend,
In just two days our team of six will be traveling to Ghana, West Africa for our first of two projects this year inside this wonderful country. Please remember to pray for team members:
          • Jeff Andler
          • Mark Chase
          • Roy Mason
          • James McLean
          • David Ney
          • Andy Poe
This project will include our first-ever "Dental Clinic" ministry as part of our evangelistic emphasis. Dr. David Ney, a dentist from Davidson, NC, will be working in the remote villages of Ghana and exploring for more ways to utilize this "platform" for future projects. Please pray for his strength and wisdom as we minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Ghana.

As always we count on the prayer support of friends, like you, who keep our ministry before the "Throne of Grace." Hopefully you are receiving our prayer updates from ministry coordinator, Lynda Gregory. If you do not receive these additional emails, please email Lynda and ask her to add your address to our electronic prayer list.

It is our prayer that God will honor and bless this ministry in Ghana.
Once again thank you so much for your continued support of Global Evangelism Ministries. It is because of you that we are able to "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel!" On behalf of everyone connected with Global Evangelism Ministries and with my warmest personal regards I am

The following is an actual e-mail that I received from one of our colleages in Ghana. Hopefully this will give you a glimpse into the spiritual battles we face during each project.

Greetings in Jesus' Name,I am sending this to those who know me well and I know will be praying for me and my activities here. In addition to those issues mentioned in my news letter, there are two issues with me that call for serious prayer. One is the ongoing conflict in Saboba, and indeed throughour Konkomba land, with the fetish. Some time ago a juju man went through the area identifying certain members of the community as being witches. In my community he laid his hex on a fine young man named Moses. Moses is a committed Christian, a teacher at a local school, and a friend.Certain men in the community have brutally attacked Moses and demanded that he leave the community, and they back up their demands with violence. Others, who are in the vast majority, are saying "no", we will not allow a juju man to bring these kind of problems into our community. The community is totally divided, with the holligans dominating. This has brought great division into the community. I think that you will recall me talking to you about Ubakan, a young man in my house in Effiduase. His widowed mother is staying in my house in Saboba and is raising four small children not her own. She has taken a stand for Moses, and as a result has been badly beaten. By the way, all of the people in the community are related - they are brothers and sisters and cousins and aunts and uncles. If you are having problems identifying with this, then you know exactly how I feel. Who today believes in witches, and who turnes violent at the beconing of a voodoo man? You and I have lived in a part of the world where violent satanic influence is unknown. These hostile men will not listen to reason, let alone to the Gospel. For me, two Scriptures have very gained new meaning: I John 4:4 and Isaiah 54:17 And others. Friends in Saboba continually come to me asking what they should do - that I am "the only one not afraid." When I was getting ready to leave to bring these children to Effiduase, five of the elders came to me begging me not to leave, being convinced that I would not return. My prayers for divine protection, wisdom, holy boldness have a whole new meaning. Will you fervently stand with me? The second issue is a direct result of this conflict. First some back ground: All land in the North of Ghana is tribal land and is owned by the chief. Thus if you want land for some purpose you go to the chief and he will either give it to you or sell it to you. Everything is verbal, there is nothing signed, there is no piece of paper that says you own a certain piece of land. Nothing is surveyed. Also never mind that someone else has been using the land for generations - if the chief gives away your land you have no say.The chieftaincy in West Africa is closely tied to the fetish worship. The chief is sworn into his responsibilities by the fetish priest and is charged with protecting the fetish shrines and the monuments to the ancestors. Thus a committed Christian would never become a tribal chief.Because of the divisions in my community in Saboba the chief has demanded his land back from certain family members and from me. A large part of the community is taking a stand telling him that they will not move; another is looking to move. Those not moving are facing threats that there houses will be burned.Since coming to Ghana, I very frequently ask myself two questions: What would Christ do? and What would He have me to do? Until now, I have found answers to these questions pretty straight forward - our God has not left us in the dark regarding His marching orders. On this issue I am uncertain.I use two godly men in Saboba as spiritual advisors, and both have advised me to move - that the battle is not mine. Too, they remind me, that whatever else I am, I am a white man and there is a very real possibility that it will turn into a black vs. white issue. When I return to Saboba in the next few days I need to make some decisions. Could I ask you to be in prayer on this?I truly feel that if I had a thousand more people praying for me that it would not be enough (yes, I realize too that it takes only one). Know that I only want God's perfect will.Again, thank you for your ongoing support and prayers,In Christ,
Philip

January 2008

My dear friend,
This is the most exciting time ever to be at work in the Kingdom of God! The invitations to our ministry continue to come nearly every week. Just this week alone we have received new invitations from Sudan, Pakistan, and Kenya to come and begin ministry in the countries.
While we are thankful for each invitation, GEM is committed to only accepting invitations for partnership after much prayer and confirmation of the call. Please continue to remember us in your prayers as we contemplate God's next assignment for us.
2008 holds many challenges for our ministry. In just a few days two of us will be leaving the US
for a European project that will take us to both Romania and The Czech Republic. The trip will involve preaching points and continued planning for our future ministry in both of these countries.
HARVEST GHANA UPDATE
In early March our team will return to Ghana, West Africa for the first of our two annual projects to this country. This particular project will host our first-ever dental clinic as a part of our evangelistic project. The clinic will afford us an even greater opportunity to share the gospel with more people.
Please pray for Dr. David Ney and the others who will be leading this portion of the project.
Our entire team will be traveling into the most remote areas of the country to encounter thousands of people who have never before been challenged directly by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that will be our most productive project in Ghana.

As always Ghana places a tremendous stain on the ministry in regards to finances. The entire ministry cost for Ghana will be in excess of $15,000 (plus the personal expenses of each team member). If you are able to contribute toward this need we will be extremely thankful. Remember all our funding comes from individuals, like you, who make GEM a regular part of their missions support.
Annual Contribution Receipts
If you made contributions to Global Evangelism Ministries during 2007 you will find your annual contribution statement enclosed in the January hard mailing. You should receive this by the first of February. If you find any discrepancies with your records please contact us at the address below or via email at info@gemonline.org at your earliest convenience.
Once again thank you so much for your continued support of Global Evangelism Ministries. It is because of you that we are able to move into this New Year with the confidence that God continues to call us to "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel!"
On behalf of everyone connected with Global Evangelism Ministries and with my warmest personal regards I am
Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission,

Christmas header

Are you ready for Christmas? I'm sure the tree has been decorated, the candles placed in the windows, and the plans have been made for your Christmas dinner. That wonderful day is almost here. But wait a minute ...

Are your gifts all wrapped? What about the most important gift? What about the gift to those you love the most? The days are drawing closer to Christmas and to the end of the year 2007.

On behalf of our Global Evangelism Ministries family, we hope that you will know the true joy and peace of this season and we pray that this will be the most blessed Christmas in the life of you and your family!

During the days of Christmas it is important to think about the gift that God gave the world. When we pause to think about the glorious gift of Lord Jesus, we are compelled to share Jesus this Christmas in every way possible! With your help, we will be able to embark on our most energetic year ever in ministry.

As this year draws to a close, it's an opportunity for you, as our partner in the Gospel, to help as we face an important challenge - the need of over $50,000 in donations (this month) to finish our year strong and enter the New Year with the financial provision that meets our immediate ministry needs. We hope you will prayerfully give and help GEM launch forward with new opportunities to tell more people about Jesus Christ around the globe.

We are not using this time to "catch-up" but to aggressively face 2008 with the financial resources to touch thousands of individuals in Ghana, Romania, and The Czech Republic with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. We, like virtually all ministries like ours, receive a larger portion of our gifts at the end-of-the-year, which enable us to enter the financially lean months of January and February with the resources necessary to move forward.

While there are certainly many ministries calling for your attention at this time of the year, we believe GEM is worthy of your attention. Since 2001 we have witnessed over 282,400 individuals indicate their first-time decision to follow Christ through our preaching projects around the world. GEM is faithfully fulfilling our God-given task. We are taking the gospel into the world, especially those places others have forgotten.

On behalf of our team members around the world, I would like to express our deep appreciation for all you have done to help us in our ministry.

We praise the Lord for all that He has allowed us to do around the world. We do want to let you know that we do need your help so please send a gift as God prompts your heart. It is our prayer that this will be the most joyous Christmas you have ever experienced and that 2008 will be your most productive in service to the King of kings. Until Jesus comes, I remain

Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission,

My dear friend …
As Zacharias proclaimed when his tongue was loosed:

"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, And has raised up a horn of salvation for us …To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
-- Luke 1:68-69 NASB

This is the message to focus on in this season of remembering our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ’s advent.

This is an extremely important time of the year for Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM). We count on the generosity of our dear friends to help us in reaching the world for Jesus Christ. The greatest gift of all is the gift of Jesus Christ to our lost and dying world. As you consider your Christmas gifts this season, we hope you will remember GEM. We count on God doing a marvelously supernatural work in our ministry. The year end affords our friends and financial partners with a wonderful opportunity to give us the boost we need to enter the New Year. With less than two weeks remaining until year’s end, we want you to know just how much we need your help.

2008 promises to be our most energetic year ever!

  • We have our first-ever medical project planned for Ghana. This project, which will still be intentionally evangelistic, will give us a wonderful platform to reach into remote places with the good news of Jesus Christ. In addition to the field dental clinic we will distribute Bibles, conduct school assembly programs, and of course the nightly evangelistic film crusades. GEM’s direct need for this project will be in excess of $15,000.
  • We have our re-shaped Revival Romania project planned for January. As mentioned in our last FrontLine Update we are partnering with five churches for the next five years for revival training and evangelistic harvest events. Remember, we will be working in all five churches during each of the two annual projects. Each of the annual projects will cost us approximately $2,400 per church, per year, which translates to an annual need of $24,000. Our first project will cost us $12,000.
  • Our ministry inside the Czech Republic continues to move forward. We are striving to continue in the building of a viable Christian presence in this country through sports camps, PrayerWalking projects, and seasonal outreach efforts. Our next venture into the Czech Republic will cost GEM in excess of $3,000.

As you can easily see now is the time when we need your support most! These immediate project needs are $30,000 which means, we have a total December financial goal of $50,000. Remember, all your gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law and you will be receipted for your annual gifts. In order to receive 2007 tax benefits your gift must be postmarked by December 31, 2007.

It is our prayer that you will have the most joyous Christmas ever and that 2008 will be your most productive year in service to the King of kings.

December 2007
newspaper

Where does the time go? It's difficult to believe that we are nearing the end of another year, but what an incredible year it has been! By God's grace Global Evangelism Ministries has been blessed to share the gospel in 163 venues around the world since January 1, 2007. This incredible feat is the result of your faithfulness in supporting our work and witness around the world. Thanks for your prayers and financial support. Both are vital to the work of GEM. We could not do this without your partnership.

REVIVAL ROMANIA CHANGES
Once again I find myself sitting on an airplane in route from Europe to the United States. I have just left Romania where I was involved in very productive planning meetings with our new coordinator Pastor George Surtea of the Macea Church in the county of Arad. Brother George has a wonderful heart for missions and ministry inside Romania. I am more encouraged now at the possibilities of what is ahead for our work in Eastern Europe than ever before.

As a result of these critical meetings, GEM has accepted the invitation to do ministry inside Romania for the foreseeable future. We will be partnering with five churches in Arad county who have a heart for revival and evangelism. Our first project under the new leadership will be in January 2008. We now need to find the five preachers that God has already called to help us in this ministry -- men who have a deep heart for revival within the church. We need preachers who are committed to the long-term task of assisting Romania churches with preparation for an evangelistic harvest. If you are interested in joining us on the project scheduled for January 9-23, 2008, please contact me ASAP.
HARVEST GHANA UPDATE
I am happy to report that we have received the funds necessary for the purchase of our much-neededland rover 2 Land Rover in Ghana! We praise the Lord for the wonderful way our supporters rose to the task of meeting the financial needs for this ministry. In a little more than one month the need was met. The appeal of our Ghana coordinator Sammy Lartey was answered faithfully. "I knew my God would meet our needs according to His riches in Glory." said Sammy upon receiving the news that the funds for the vehicle were available. "I never doubted what God was going to do for us" he continued.

This vehicle will enable Sammy to travel deep into the bush of Ghana for follow-up meetings in the villages where our recent crusades took place. In addition to this his efforts for planning for the next project(s) has been eased greatly by this vehicle. Thank-you so much for your generous support of this and all our ministry needs!

Our next Harvest Ghana project is scheduled for March 4-20, 2008. The project will include, in addition to the typical school and village crusades, an ordination service for the 24 pastors who are working in the newly established and planted village churches throughout Ghana. These churches are the result of GEM's "going where others dare not go" with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Each of these pastors ministry is the result of all that you are doing to help GEM in Ghana. We also have the potential of doing our initial medical/dental clinic in Ghana. Please continue to pray for this upcoming ministry in Ghana.
Years End Brings New Year's Needs
Year's End bring New Year's Needs
December is always an incredible time for Global Evangelism Ministries. While we enjoy the opportunity to be at home with our families and friends, we know that the early days of January bring a renewed schedule for mission and ministry. With these approaching opportunities come the rising cost of doing international ministry. The weaker dollar (in global markets), the soaring price of gas (which translates into higher air fare costs, and higher project costs in the field), and all the rest result in our need for increased support for our friends and partners around the world.

This year we have been blessed to have a "challenge gift" from one of our dear financial supporters. Here is how it works. This brother will match any gift given to GEM in the month of December -- up to $5,000! Do you realize the magnitude of this challenge? Your financial gift can be doubled with the simple stroke of the pen. I hope you will consider your most generous contribution to GEM and give it today. Remember, in order for your gift to receive 2007 tax-credit it must be received before December 31, 2007.

Our upcoming projects include,
  • REVIVAL ROMANIA where we will partner with five churches over the next five years for revival training and evangelistic harvest events. Remember, we will be working in all five churches during each of the two annual projects. Each of the annual projects will cost us approximately $2,400 per church, per year.
  • HARVEST GHANA where we will conduct film and school crusades in remote and desolate locations where people have never yet heard the Gospel. We are planning two of these projects, each with a cost of $11,000.
  • CZECH IT OUT projects where we continue to build a viable Christian presence in the country through sports camps, PrayerWalking projects, and seasonal outreach events

My heart is thrilled to report the marvelous blessings of God through GEM! Little did we realize in June 2001 that we would be reporting the facts that, by GOD's grace, we have shared the gospel with over a half a million individuals in over 1,200 venues around the world! It is simply overwhelming to consider the wonderful privilege God has given us in this Great Commission task.

Without any notion of pride we are honored to report to you that as a result of our "we go to them" philosophy we have been able to witness over 282,400 individuals indicate their first-time decision for Christ through our preaching projects around the globe. Only eternity will reveal the true results of our ministry, but we are trusting God's grace in all that we do.
Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission,

Czech Republic Update

The sleepy little town of Domazlice, Czech Republic gives one the impression of a step back in time, however after only a few short days you will realize the potential of the Gospel. The once "walled city" is not only quaint and historical, but beautiful. The true beauty of the place is not seen in the building or the sites, but in the people.

The longer we have been in this place the more walls we have seen begin to break-down. While it is true that some of the people in this place are distant, more of them are becoming open to the smiles, greetings, and "friendship" of our team.

This, our first-ever, platform ministry inside the Czech Republic has been incredible. While it is true that we have not seen the harvest of a Ghana trip, we have certainly seen the hand of God upon us! During the final session of the basketball clinic our head coach was able to briefly, but adequately share the gospel with the camp participants (while other team members engaged adult on-lookers). Due to the skepticism and suspicion of this culture an open response was not called for, instead the boys were encouraged to speak privately to a team member if they so desired. One young man approached one of the coaches afterwards with two simple, but powerful words, "I believe!" Though many of us might consider this a meager beginning, but it is a beginning that causes the Angels in Heaven to rejoice (Luke 15:10).

It is imperative to express our gratitude to all those who have gone before us in the place. GEM has led five previous trips to Domazlice where team of spiritual trailblazers and pioneers conducted PrayerWalking projects. It is without a doubt that God honored the prayers of these dear servants.

What is the future of our ministry in Domazlice? As we continue to build trusting relationships with the people of this town we are trusting God to enlarge our territory and increase our opportunities for the Gospel.

What I had heard prior to coming to this land for my first time was factual...a beautiful place with beautiful people, though rendered suspicious and skeptical of outsiders' motives by centuries of mistreatment and betrayal. After surviving the Turks, the Third Reich and the communists, this is a land left guarded toward all strangers and doubtful toward God Himself. Yet, I see an overwhelmingly exciting opportunity, for when darkness has formed what seems to be its firmest grip, the Light can surely do His greatest work. Though it is likely to require patient diligence, I look forward to what God is going to do in the Czech Republic, and I hope to be a part of it all.

We arrived safely without event in Domazlice. We met our final two comrades, Michael and Todd. Todd is a professional basketball camp operator, Thank GOD. He has it all worked out. The guys went to the gym tonight to play basketball and just warm up and ended up playing with this towns version of a professional team. They have asked our crew to coach them while they are here.

We had even more kids show up today the basketball camps. The excitement and anticipation was bursting from each kid. I would guess they are 9 to 16 in age. They are so into everything they are learning. Most play on local little leagues and their coaches are here too, learning the training techniques. When the whistle blows for them to take a 5 minute water break, the only ones drinking water are our guys. These kids are so excited they don't want to stop at all. Today we gave them T-shirts, cups, tags, stickers and had new testaments there for them as well. Every boy took one and few opened them and started reading right then! They follow us out and walk with us down the street with such pride. If they only knew what an honor it is for us to be here with them!
michael Coach Todd Burden
What an incredible time we have had with these young people. Today, during our final session with them, we sat down and shared a clear Gospel message of God's grace through Jesus' sacrifice! We started with a simple teleological argument of design to show them that there is a God! We then presented Christ as the great "Substitute" in the "game of life." The invitation was very simple. I invited them to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. The kids were then encouraged to share with the coaches and the coaches were instructed to engage each camper possible with questions. The wonderful culmination of the week was a young man seeking me out to tell me "I believe." There has been much progress with breaking down walls, developing relationships, and most importantly proclaiming the Gospel! I am thrilled to have been a part of helping Global Evangelism lay the foundation in Domazlice. Pray for the Czech people as they are hearing "good news"!

bb-groupGEM's first-ever platform ministry inside the Czech Republic has been met with excitement and enthusiasm! Our team of American coaches was welcomed by young men of all ages into the small town of Domazlice, Czech Republic. Thank so so much to each person who has prayed for this first-step toward evangelism inside this former communist country. The faithful prayers of God's dear people is making an impact on the lives of the people of this dear place. Please continue to pray for us.
rm-hatOnly eternity will tell ..."
This has been an incredible beginning of ministry in Domazlice! While all of us had "expectations" of what the ministry here in the Czech Republic might look like, none of us knew for sure. When Global Evangelism Ministries was first approached about the possibilities of establishing a presence in the western Czech Republic we were apprehensive, but certain that God was leading us in this direction.

After two full years of preliminary vision trips into the country we settled on the notion of conducting a basketball clinic for the youth of the city. We had virtually no "on-site" contacts but were simply trusting God to direct our steps. It was clear that God was going to have to go before us and enable us to accomplish anything for His glory. Little did I know all that God was going to be accomplishing in front of us.

The first thing was for Him to build the team of coaches that we would be bringing with us. bbmen I have been overwhelmed at the way God brought this team together. I want to express my deepest appreciation to Todd Burden of "InBounds Ministries" and his very capable leadership. I am awed at the way Todd allows God to use him and lead him in the arena of basketball. Our other team members, Jeff Andler, John Byrum, Michael Swink, Wendy Sweet, Matt Torzewski, JC Underwood, and Ermil Wilhite have performed their assigned duties without the slightest of complaint. I hope you will express to each one of them your appreciation too!
underwooJ. C. Underwood
It has rained everyday since we arrived in the Czech. But everyone is upbeat and positive. Six of us arrived on Tuesday. Roy and two others arrived last week to get things ready for the basketball clinic, that started Thursday. We were not going to be unhappy if one showed up or 100 kids.

Our first camp had 13 eager young people ready and willing to learn the finer points of basketball. They will be back for the next three days and others will come with them.

We have six great well trained coaches from NC and Indy. They are experienced Christian young men that know there stuff. They not only love the Lord but understand the sport and know how to use it to witness to the young people. Todd the head coach explained to the young people that we were here representing Christ, not ambassadors for the USA.

Most of the ground work prior to our arrival has been done by our good and faithful friend Michaela. She has taken off from work to help, and is here this week working with the coaches and interpreting. Please pray for her in every way. Even though she does not understand I believe she was sent by God.

One thing is for sure. God's love and the message of the cross is worth taking to the most remote distant towns and villages in Europe! This is what the Global Evangelism team is doing and I'm thrilled to be on the front lines here in Domazlice reaching out to anyone and everyone who will let us. We are glad when they are responsive to receiving a smile or hello and gospel track. Only three times have I been denied in my handing out the tracts but that is pale compared to those countless ones who in the last few days have received it and then upon second glance, five steps later, turning around to see them standing still and reading about what Christ did for them. Most are open and even more seemed reserved and cautious but that doesn't discourage us. It motivates us to persist in our prayers as we walk in the town, eat in the restaurants and live in the town with them. The basketball clinics are going well and the boys were very engaged during the entire session. They interact with us through a sport that we all have in common. My impression of this specific trip has more to do with dependence and trust than anything else. Dependence on our part on the Lord that He will have His way with us and these dear people as we seek to walk in obedience to minister to them and trust to know that the love we show them that we receive from Jesus will be noticed and will force them to pursue a personal knowledge and understanding of the SOURCE of that love. Praise be to God for the gift of His wonderful Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

michaelErmil Wilhite
Brother Roy asked each of us on the team to put into words our first impressions of this journey. Throughout the trip, I have felt this to be one of those times I have seen very clearly that the Lord was preparing beforehand. As we continue on in the week, more and more good works just seem to fall before us. We have made many contacts with people, some indifferent but some very warm. The camps are going great and the boys are having as much fun as we are. They seem to be excited to use the English that they know. And when communication is made they are very proud. As on every trip, we go home with favorites in our hearts, those whom we feel a true connection with. Mine are Unza (John), and Matei (Matthew). Please join us in prayer for the salvation of these kids and also for more contact people here in Domazlice.

UPDATE FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC

bbgroup

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"

The first day of basketball clinic is in the hopper. What a great success it was. Our total team arrived in the Czech Republic on Tuesday and made the way to Domazlice on Wednesday. After a time of adjustment to the surroundings we prepared ourselves for the day ahead, wondering if the pre-preparation for the clinic had been successful. Only God would know.

Our clinic team made their way to the gym on Thursday afternoon and waited to witness what God had planned for the day. After some time of wondering and waiting the first Czech ball players made their way into the gym. Within a few moments the total group of thirteen young people were present for the clinic! There had been some confusion as to the actual time for the beginning of the clinic, but all the participants assured us that others would be with them tomorrow!

Although this seems like a very small group, we all feel extremely blessed to witness the wonderful working of God in our midst. I want to thank each one of you who has been praying for this project and I encourage you to please continue to do so. Following this article you will find a few of the thoughts of three of those who are with us on the project. Impressions from others will be in the next update.

We are one week into our time in the Czech Republic and it has been everything I was told it would be. Unlike many regions of the world, the Czech is not a place openly friendly to tourists - yet they endure us. We have spent each day saying hello to every person we pass, trying to break down walls. And the beauty of the time is that we see it starting to work. It is a thrill to get a "hello" returned and see a smile on a face. These are a people with much history causing them to not trust - so we hope to show the faithful love of Christ to them. The Lord even blessed us with the opportunity to play against a men's team here in Domazlice - and that was great for building relationships
ips. As we saw some of them out today they initiated the "hellos." Praise the Lord for the opportunity to be His instrument!
mattMatt Torzewski,
Before I even arrived in Europe I was picturing old times like you would see in black and white war movies. I was under the impression that you should not drink the water and should definitely eat safe food. I was imagining Domazlice as a small quaint farm town but boy was I wrong. It is nice and peaceful however I have yet to see a goat or ox. the people look just you and I; they go about their daily lives to make ends meat. With this trip being the foundation of Ministry in the town, I was a little reserved about how the gospel would be received. People will not make eye contact with you and some will not talk but many people have been willing to take a gospel track printed in the local language. I can see God and work and I have only been in Domazlice for 30 hours at this point. During basketball camp today you could see the walls being broke through the smiles of the youth.

Like a farmer approaches a new piece of land, in a new country, with new seasons and weather patterns; so I feel as I have been in Domazlice these past 5 days. The seed of God's Word that I know so well is unchanging and sure but I, being challenged by the Master Farmer(Christ Jesus), who knows these people so well, have had to wait for the right time to till the soil the right time to sow the seed the right way to approach this people. It was difficult and first because the process was slow but it's encouraging to see the Lord reveal progress in reaching out and developing relationships with these people. Praise the Lord for his faithfulness to lead as we keep on actively waiting on HIM.

14,209 decisions for Christ!van

My dear friend,

Our ministry team has just returned from Ghana, West Africa where we were blessed to witness 14,209 individuals indicate their "first-time" decision to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. It was overwhelming to witness these precious souls respond so eagerly to the gospel invitation. Words always fail to convey the true sense of joy we have in our hearts during the days of ministry.

The project in Ghana went exceptionally well. A special "thank-you" goes to those who contributed for the generator, bibles, electrical supplies, film equipment, and regular project expenses. Without your faithful financial support the ministry of Global Evangelism Ministries would be impossible. Thank you especially to Joe Vagone, Nick & Sandi Ollila, Debbie Morgan, Andy Poe, Bill Henderson, and James McLean for your sacrificial gifts!

The distribution of Bibles has been a tremendous blessing to everyone. It is amazing to see the expressions on the faces of individuals who are receiving their own copy of God's word for the very first time.

filmThe entire project was with excitiment, adventure, and new opportunities. We were able to present the gospel in 50 seperate venues and see 14,209 people indicate their firs-time decision to follow Christ! As promised, this project took us deep into the bush of ghana on roads which before had been untraveled by gospel preachers. We traveled by plane, taxi, vans, boats, and ferry to reach the people of this wonderful country. This was, without a doubt, the most physically demanding of all our projects into Ghana. The roads on which we traveled looked more like foot paths than vehicle roads. One cannot put into the words the visual experiences of the trip.

On one particular night, near the end of the project, we traveled 2.5 hours by vehical ferry to the area of Afram Plains. Once on the island we were shuttled by our vans for 1 hour on a dusty and rough road to our hotel, only to travel another 1 hour down a worse road to yet a smaller ferry which took us to a desolate island with virtually exposure to the outside world. Our journey continued up the virtually impassable roads for approximately one hour to a village where we screened the Jesus Film. At the end of the day, we witnessed several hundred people respond positively to the Gospel message. The ride back to our hotel that night seemed much easier as we rejoiced over the multitude of people who responded to the invitation of Christ!

The next morning, after a short night's rest (we arrived back at the hotel around 2:00am) we traveled the same route back to the island to meet with the small church that had hosted us the previous night. Much to the surprise of everyone, including the mission pastor, the "largest crowd ever" had assembled for church in the delapitaed school building. These were all people who had prayed to receive Jesus the night before and now were making their first steps on the Christian path. We distributed several hundred bibles that morning and promised them that we would return to their village on a future trip to Ghana.

This is but one story which could be shared from the project. There are so many more but space does not allow for the details.

"To God be the glory great things He has done." Harvest Ghana 2007, which began from Saturday, 15th September ended successfully on Tuesday, 25th September, 2007.

Over 14,200 souls were brought out from the kingdom of darkness into that of light and love. But this was not without toil as the GEM team, led by her president Dr. Roy, has to go out in heavy rains to areas never visited by a white man (deep remotest villages). To put it blankly this was a project in which every team member received the mark of Christ in their bodies as did Apostle Paul, (Gal. 5:17.)

Dr. Roy Mason with Jeff Andler and Mark Chase arrived safely in Ghana on Thursday, 13 September around 7:30pm. They made the two hour trip to Akosombo the following Friday amidst transportation disappointments. That same day they spoke at the first program where 200 souls were won for the Lord.

The difficulties the team went through the following day with transportation, prompted Roy to prophesy
van that this project was going to be very successful, but not without much toil! This indeed was a prophecy which came to pass. Praise be to our good Lord who gave us the spirit of endurance to persevere -- making us more than conquerors.

It was all joy seeing people walk through the heavy rains to hear the Word for the salvation of their soul. Also the smiles on the faces of these as they receive copies of New Testaments that was made possible to them by beloved and concerned brethren in the USA.

One outstanding unusual event that was registered at the evening programs was the presence of the Chiefs of the various villages. These did not just come but dedicated their decisions for Christ. Each of these was presented with a bible! Some even went further by coming of the Sunday morning worship service.

To God be the Glory great things he has done!

Yours, in HIS service,
Rev. Sammy Lartey

This recent, just completed, project to Ghana was a tremendous success and blessing to so many people.

Sometimes I need to be stretched. About every other week I make a trip to my Chiropractor, Dr. Chares Rissew for what he calls "an adjustment." I don't know how much I am adjusted, but I know that the stretches he does on me make be feel a lot better.

I must confess that this particular project stretched us all. We were asked to traverse into deep remote areas of the country on almost non-existent roads to places that have been before neglected or forgotten - even by the nationals of Ghana. While it was very difficult to reach these people physically, it was simple to reach them for Christ! They responded with joy and excitement to the Gospel message. I have never before seen people so eager for hope that comes only through Jesus.

Each of the people in the various locations reminded me that we have both the privilege and responsibility to share the gospel with all the world. As we relax in our homes, ride in our cars, or sit comfortably in our church buildings I hope we will think about the thousands of individuals around the world who have yet to hear the gospel message. Who is going to share the message of Jesus Christ with these individuals? If we don't who will? Maybe we could all stand to be stretched a bit. Perhaps we should all take a moment to think about the people around the globe who are today in need of the gospel.

Are you willing to be stretched? Are you ready to join us on a project to Ghana? Our next project to Ghana will come in March '08 and we welcome you to join us. We are looking for doctors, nurses, and dentists to join us as we travel again into the remotest areas of Ghana. Are you ready to join us? I promise, you'll be stretched.

Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission,

Roy Mason

SEPTEMBER 2007
In just a few short days a ministry team will depart Charlotte for Ghana, West Africa where we will share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with tens of thousands of people ...

Our dear friends ...

If previous projects are any indication we will undoubtedly witness thousands of these individuals indicate their personal decision to receive Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Our Ghana coordinator, Rev. Sammy Lartey, has assured us that all possible preparation has been made for a productive project. "All that is lacking," writes Sammy, "is the powerful preaching of God's word and the persistent prayers of God's people." We have pledged to him that we will have many people here (in the USA) praying for the power of God to overshadow all that we do.

Please remember to pray for this intense ministry project. We will be traveling deep into the bush of Ghana far away from the comforts and amenities of home. Our travels will include the usual twelve hours of flying, but will also see us on bush-taxis and a three-hour ferry ride up the Volta River.

Pray for our physical and spiritual well-being during the days of ministry. Team members include, Jeff Andler, Mark Chase, and Roy Mason. The dates for this evangelistic endeavor are September 11-27, 2007.

Thank-you to every person who has continued to faithfully support the work of Global Evangelism Ministries with your prayers and financial support. Remember, the on-going efforts of GEM counts on your generous financial support. All gifts to GEM are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law and contributors will be receipted annually for their gifts.

Global Evangelism Ministries is entering the most strenuous and aggressive stretch of ministry to-date. Over the next five months I (and others with me) will travel on four separate ministry trip to four different countries. These months will include no less than 50,000 air miles and additional travel by trains, ferries, buses, sub-ways, taxis, and cars. Such is the life of our ministry.

I trust you will please remember to pray for the projects listed here:

HARVEST GHANA
September 11-27, 2007

CZECH BASKETBALL CLINIC
October 22-30, 2007

REVIVAL ROMANIA
January 10-23, 2008

In addition to these we have additional planning trips. Each time GEM conducts a "platform" ministry many hours of planning and preparation have been invested. The harvest is just the result of the intense months of planning and planting on the part of many people around the world.

There are several ways you can become involved with our ministries in various places around the globe. Here are a few of the most pressing needs we now face in Ghana:

  • Pastor Support in Ghana. new church
Our network of local pastors in Ghana has grown to 24. Each of these "nationals" stand in need of monthly financial support. For $50 per month you can provide for the pastor's rent and food. The churches are unable to provide any financial support for these men.

If you are interested in sponsoring a local pastor ($600 annually) please contact me.

  • Bibles for new Christians in Ghana.
During each of two annual project to Ghana we see approximately 15,000 individuals indicate their decision to follow Christ. It is our aim to provide a Bible to each of these people. We have located a supplier of Bibles who will sell to us for $.25 per copy. This great price still means that we need $7,500 annually for Bibles (15,000 times two projects).

Your designated monthly gift of $25 will buy a case of 100 bibles in Ghana. Please note BIBLES FOR GHANA on your check. Click here
for additional information about the Bibles Project.

Remember, you are able to make contributions
to these and other projects through our webiste with your credit or debit card. All contributions will be receipted annually.
Sincerely,

Roy Mason

News from Global Evangelism Ministries
little girl from Ghana
Look at the face of this little girl. She is just one of the thousands that we have the opportunity to minister to while in Ghana, West Africa. The expression on her face says it all.

Perhaps this precious little one came to school on this morning with her belly empty and hungry. Maybe she is one of the many whose parents died and left her to be raised by an older brother or sister. It could be that she has no real idea of what the future holds for her. While it is impossible to know the exact situation of this particular little girl, I do know that the scenario outlined here is true of so many of the children we meet while in Ghana. Not a week goes by that we do not receive a card or letter from someone in Africa expressing their appreciation for our ministry to them.

Matt 18:10-11 reminds us of Jesus' word to us about the little children, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven. For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost."

Jeff Andler preaching

Global Evangelism Ministries committed to the task of taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ into a dark and dying world - and especially to the children in the countries where we work.
I cannot tell you the joy that floods my soul as our teams have the opportunity to stand before a school group and share the love of Jesus with the little ones. The children listen in rapt attention to the stories of the Bible and the absolute love of Jesus Christ. It is as if no one has ever taken the time to show them any love or attention.
When they hear, most for the first time, that Jesus loved them enough to die on the cross in their place, their hearts melt in gratitude and confession.
Jesus said in Mark 10:14-16 - "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all."

Sinners Prayer

Thank you so much for helping enable
us to share the gospel with hundreds of thousands of people around the globe. Without your prayer and financial support the work would not be possible. Your support affirms our calling and challenge

The realization that many of the people we stand before actually receive Jesus into their lives brings an overwhelming thrill to our hearts. We count it as a privilege to invest into their lives.

Please pause right now and thank God for His marvelous grace! Thank God for allowing you to share in His work around the world. Thank God for giving GEM the opportunity to be used by Him in such a special way. Ask God to continue to supply our needs for the fulfilling of His purpose in reaching the world for Christ.

Philemon 1:4-5 says - "I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers, because I hear of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;"

This, our friend, is our prayer for you today.

Roy MasonStraight from my heart ...

In the above update you can get a glimpse into the work of GEM. I hope you will take time to read and consider our ministry in Ghana.
As the summer begins to wind down I trust you will remember this ministry. The next several months brings with them the most intense part of our annual schedule. Between now and the end of the year we have ministry projects scheduled in three separate countries, each of which require your prayerful support. Consider adding GEM to your daily prayer list. If you would like to be added to our electronic prayer support network, please contact our Prayer Coordinator, Lynda Gregory , by email.

In addition to praying for the specific ministry projects I want to encourage you to pray for all of our team members.

  • Field Associate Mark Chase has just completed sinus surgery and is recovering at home.

  • Executive Vice President David West is doing a great deal of traveling with the US Army and asks for your continued prayers.

  • Associate Craig Furlough is serving as Pastor of the Sand Point Chapel in Sand Point, Alaska. In this role Craig has the opportunity to minister to the entire island. Please pray for brother Craig and his challenging role.

  • GEM Ghana National Director Sammy Lartey continues to plan and implement ministry endeavors in Ghana and is looking to expand to other West African countries.

  • Associate George Surtea serves as Pastor of the Macea Church in Romania and is currently working on ways to expand the evangelistic ministry of GEM in this country.

  • Michaela Krekulova is our gatekeeper in the Czech Republic who is working to help us begin our ministry in this country. Please pray for this dear young woman.

News from Global Evangelism Ministries
people Imagine going through every day of your life without hope...wondering what is going to happen next...alone and afraid every day.

This is exactly what is happening to the millions of people around the world who have never responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The vast majority of people in the world are without Christ and lost!

This staggering truth motivates Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM) to continue our work around the world. Since our beginning six years ago we have been blessed to witness over 252,000 individuals indicate their decision to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. While we are thankful for these precious decisions we realize that this is a very small number when we stop to think about the multitude who have never heard the Gospel. The battle for men's souls continue and now is the time of harvest. Our mission is to share the good news of Christ with as many people as possible in the shortest time as possible. It's harvest time and we count on your help.

Those of us who actually travel to distant lands to share the gospel are fully aware of the task and the partnership we have with you (our friends, prayer-warriors, and financial supporters). The on-going work of GEM is indeed a partnership and we never forget this fact. open bible

In John 4:35-38, the word of God affirms
"Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Already he who reaps is receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for life eternal; that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true, 'One sows , and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."

Do you understand what Jesus is saying? Simply put, when you make financial investments into GEM you have an equal role and blessing with us who go and present the Gospel! You are the "sower" in the reaping of souls for the Kingdom of God. You and I are equally involved in the ministry of Global Evangelism. In other words, every time
